Under the Blue Moon, 2007 The Under the Blue Moon Goth/alternate subcultures festival was a couple of weeks ago. And I finally got round to uploading all my photos from the event. Click the thumb nails or see all of them here.

I also noticed that a number of other people have Under the Blue Moon photo, from the current and past years. Unfortunately it took quite a few different permutations to find them all. So to make life easier for the next person I created the Under the Blue Moon flickr group. Under the Blue Moon, 2007 Under the Blue Moon, 2007 Under the Blue Moon, 2007

Aussie shirts keep APEC leader Driza-Bone despite Sydney weather

The APEC leaders wore Driza-Bones as the Australian national dress (silly shirt day). Not something I would have liked to do the in heat of the week before APEC, but quite good when the weather turned sour. I hope they also got matching Akubras, though I can see why you wouldn’t wear them during the photo shoot.

I wonder if they had two sets of shirts available? One for hot weather, as well as the Driza-Bones for the wet and cold weather?

Swimming costumes and thongs were discounted by the PM. Though there were comments that Australian beach wear, like Quicksilver, should be a feature. [1,2]

IMHO the APEC leaders should have all received a Mambo T-shirt with a Reg Mombassa design. Dogs farting APEC logos, or Jesus’ APEC on the beach. Something fun like that.

It has been pointed out to me though, that Mambo no longer does the arty t-shirts, moving more to surfy stuff. It was suggested that this was because the fancy Ts were worn more often by older people, rather than the youth market that the brand is trying to sell to [4].

Double standards in advertising, its ok to objectify men

The post looks at the double standards in advertising, and how society perceives gender roles. A Hahn add turning a heart in the sand to beasts draws complaints. But the revenge addition, turning sausages into mince, draws none. Are our culture or adds responsible for gender portrayal and perceptions? (SMH, 22 Aug 2007)

The NSW government should sell off both the retail arms and the generation business of the state’s electricity sector, an inquiry has recommended. All to make electricity cheaper? So we use more of it? But what about being more environmentally friendly and lowering power consumption? (SMH, 11 Sept 2007)

At the centre of a black hole there lies a point called a singularity where the laws of physics no longer make sense. In a similar way, according to futurists gathered for a weekend conference, information technology is hurtling toward a point where machines will become smarter than their makers. (SMH, 9 Sept 2007)
