Looking up the Energy Australia building on George street in Sydney CBD at sunset. You can see the moon above the building.

Get on the ethical coffee bandwgon

The ethical coffee bandwagonIs ethics a current fad, or do businesses actually believe in it?

I noticed this sign outside the Starbucks in George Street, Sydney yesterday. Apparently now all their coffee is sourced ethically.

The espresso in your favourite Starbucks’ beverages is bold, rich and 100% responsibly grown and ethically traded.

So, while I don’t think it is bad to be ethical, I feels like ethical is the new green.

Am I being too cynical? Do all the companies that spruik their green and ethical credentials really believe them, or is it just a marketing ploy?

Not being a drinker of coffee myself, I just hope my hot chocolate doesn’t also contain ethical espresso.

They multiplied like, park benches…

And some moreFirst there was one, then there were two, and now it seems their number is to increase to four. The park benches are multiplying like binary numbers.

As much as I could tell, from talking to the council workers setting up the moulds, there had always been the plan to put in this many park benches.

And why did one of the original concrete slabs disappear? “Don’t ask” I was told. A bit more conversation and I found that it had been flat with the ground, but not horizontal. “Ok if you don’t mind sliding off the seat”.

So, it is nice to see seating for parents being added around the children’s playground in Gladstone Park. Just remember to make sure your concrete is laid straight the first time.

Block busted 8/9/2009

Walking down Enmore road to trivia at the Duke I noticed the sorry state of Blockbuster Newtown.

An empty shell of its former self. Closed earlier today, apparently, on 8 September 2009 according to the sign.

I remember when it was in a larger premises across the road. But the change in consumer behaviour moved it to a smaller location. And now it has closed altogether.

The Buggles sung in 1979 that Video Killed the Radio Star. I suppose the new tune should be Internet killed the Video Star.

And then there were two…

And then there were two...
Back in July two concrete slabs were poured in Gladstone Park, then one was removed before it got its park bench.

Well, it seems they did want two after all. A new seat has appeared in the last week or so.

I wonder what the disappearance and reappearance is due to?
