And he waits

Standing firm at the curb, he looks toward the oncoming cars.
His stance enhanced by the jacket and sunglasses.
Fate is coming and he is waiting to embrace it.

Or, maybe the bus us just running late.

And he waits

New hair cut (shop)

Dirty Giry hair, NewtownWent though Newtown tonight, and noticed that Daniel Mostyn hair has been replaced. The shop is now labeled Dirty Girl hair.

The font of the new title is the same as used for the previous name.

I wonder if he has closed or moved elsewhere? Maybe just a change of image? Though would you want to loose your name?

There seemed to be some changes on the front of the shop. And maybe a notice. But as I speed past in the bus I didn’t have a change to read them.

Anyone know what happened to the shop?

Block busted 8/9/2009

Walking down Enmore road to trivia at the Duke I noticed the sorry state of Blockbuster Newtown.

An empty shell of its former self. Closed earlier today, apparently, on 8 September 2009 according to the sign.

I remember when it was in a larger premises across the road. But the change in consumer behaviour moved it to a smaller location. And now it has closed altogether.

The Buggles sung in 1979 that Video Killed the Radio Star. I suppose the new tune should be Internet killed the Video Star.

Backlit by BrünoSaw Brüno last night at the Dendy on Newtown. And yes it does make you cringe.

There are some good bits, and some bits where you just wonder ‘why am I watching this’. I can see why people have said the film is really bad, but I think is intended to be.

The SMH review was interesting to note that Sacha Baron Cohen has become that which he once mocked. And I wonder how he continues to be able to get away with his interviews.

The thing I’m most annoyed about is that I sat through all the credits, and there was nothing else to see on the end.

BBNT – Be back next time, I think not

Night settles on BBNTTrying to sort through my 365 Nights photos and workout what extra needs to be uploaded (a lot really). And I came across this photo I took of the closed BBNT (Burgers, Burritos, Nachos and Tacos) in Newtown.

The store was a interesting concept, and it could have worked. But in my experience the service was lacking, food took a long time come. And when it arrived it was cold and parts not properly cooked.

A quick search show me that I was not alone in my feelings. While some people seem to have enjoyed the place, many seem to have been left with a bad taste in their mouth :)

It seems that khemany had quite an experience at BBNT: No service from inept staff; delays in food preparation; that was cold and inedible when they finally got it.

Trip Advisor has mixed reviews about the place, though it does note BBNT is closed. It is listed as one of the things in the Facebook What do you HATE about Newtown?.

Alternatively, people at Sutekh seemed to think it was good. I found an interesting YouTube video about a BBNT experience. And the people at bellamyhayden seem to think their uneven closing time policy was a good marketing ploy.

Of course, being uneven in other areas is what let them down. The inability to maintain quality control on food, and the lack of customer service seem to be the thing that did them in.

Juxtaposition of architecture

It is interesting to see some of the juxtaposition of architecture around inner city Sydney. Like this nice terrace of Federation houses just off King St in Newtown, with the big ugly Telstra building sitting in their backyards.

Playground for little kids or big kids?

Closed but not locked.Camperdown Memorial park children’s playground is in disrepair. From the pile of empty bottles outside the playground it looks as if there was a party in the playground. And a rowdy one at that.

The lock on the gate is broken. So without an ever constant eye a child may escape. Or a dog may enter.

Sandpit or ashtray? And both sand pits are full of cigarette buts. Not to mention the odd bottle cap and piece of glass. Not really the thing for a kids playground. I can see some kid slicing their foot open.

The sandpits need someone to run them through a sieve, like they do at the major beaches.

Come un-swungNow the broken swing I can’t definitely blame on the apparent party, but it is another sign of disrepair.

Considering inner city Sydney has a baby boom, it would be nice if facilities for children were kept in better repair.

Green with envy, or goblin blood?

King St runs greenI stepped out of a bus in Newtown today to see the gutters of King Street running green.

Should the Goblin Protection Agency be called? Or is someone just a little envious?

Now the amount of water is consistent with the slight drizzel of rain, but it is generally not that fluorescent green. I suppose that someone has tipped paint into the gutter, or a new pain job is running in the rain.

An interesting sight, but probably not very environmentally friendly.
