Go organic with plastic at Woolworths

Trying to be green and buy organic?
Or maybe just trying to avoid all the chemicals use in food production?

Doesn’t it seems just a little ironic to find your organic carrots are sealed in plastic?

I suppose it is to keep them separate so they don’t contaminate all the ‘normal‘ carrots.

Kids relegated to purgatory at Broadway

Kids relegated to purgatory at BroadwayIn their infinite wisdom Centre Management at Broadway Shopping Centre have moved the kids area to level 3, next to Priceline. The furthest they can get it away from the shops without leaving the centre?

This is the second time in a year they have move the kids playground.

Is the reason for moving, that stores have complained about the kids area being to close to them? I would think it would be good the surrounding stores. Parents are stuck there for a length of time, with nothing else to look at.

The kids playground was in a convenient location. Easy to visit when you need to let them burn off extra energy. Now you have to drag kids along a series of escalators or wait for space on the one lift that goes to level 3.

I suppose kids don’t make many purchases in the shopping centre. So why not just stick them where they are neither seen nor heard?

It’s more likely that just want the space to put in more shops. Like the reason they moved the customer service desk somewhere not obvious.

When the pricing at Coles doesn’t add up.

This seems to be a problem with this price tags in the Coles flavoured milk section.

If you are paying $6 for 3 Ice Breaks, and the price is $2.95 or $2.89 each, I would hope you save more than $1.44.

Queuing for Christmas

Mad crowds at Coles Broadway on Christmas eve? Outside it didn’t look that bad. Inside there were lots of people, but the isles were not jammed full.

The checkouts at one end were quite full. You can see even the ‘Self-Scan‘ checkouts (they put in to replace the Express ones) have a queue. Although the checkouts down the other end were not as crowded.

Perhaps this might be rectified be having a staff member noticing and better allocating people to checkouts? No, I suppose they were all too worked off their feet to do customer management.

And, although it was very busy, it didn’t feel overly crowded. Possibly after after experiencing Tokyo trains at peek hour other experiences pale in comparison.

Strange aisle combinationNoticed this sign at the end of an aisle in Coles at Broadway shopping centre.

Perhaps it is a sign of things you will need together.

ie. if you eat too much canned fish, Mexican and Asian food, you will need a new pair of underwear or a nappy. After which you will only be able to eat baby food for a while.

Opinion on Automated checkouts

Coles are installing automated checkouts in their stores. I had the unfortunate experience of being pushed into using one yesterday in World Square.

Checkout the automated onesOk, I only had 1 item to purchase. And there was a person there to ‘help’ people to learn to use the thing.

But really, why press all the buttons for me before I could read what I was supposed to do?

If you really want people to learn how to use your replacement for actual staff, maybe you could give them time to do so?

Sausages gone too quick

A packet of chicken sausages in Coles Broadway. The extra sticker says ‘Quick sale, Still fresh’, but it looks like the sausages have gone too quick and already shoot their load.

What do you have in the first aid section?

Do all these fit in First Aid?I’m not sure all the things in the first aid section at the local Coles supermarket should really be classified as such.

Band-aids and other bandages are a normal part of the first aid section.

Now, I can see that condoms might fit. Though they seem more as a preventative measure.

Although once you need a pregnancy test kit, I think you have gone past the first aid stage.

What should I buy now that the Australian dollar is doing well?

Now that the Australian Dollar is doing well, about US$0.92 to the AU$, it seems like the perfect time to buy all the stuff I wanted overseas. The only problem is, what did I really need? And all the recent upheaval in world finances had made me thing: Do I really need it?

The dilemma of the strong Australian dollar: buy now or wait for it to get stronger? As the current predictions are that it will go over US$1.00 in the beginning of next year.

So, are you going to buy all you Christmas presents from online retailers rather than local stores this year?

Meet at Coles, and have your beef

Meet at ColesI saw this package of diced beef in the local Coles supermarket. No label stuck to it to indicate price or, more importantly, no used by date.

Had intended to mention it to staff as I went though the checkout, but it slipped my mind at the time.

Do you think I should email them the photo?

Would someone actually do something about it if I did?

As it turns out, there are not email addresses listed on the Coles site. Just a feedback form. So, I’ll just submit them the URL for my blog entry. :)
